A Man on a Mission

When Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad returned to the Health Ministry in Dec 2023, it was not merely a second stint in office. It was, as he puts it, a return "with vengeance" - a determined resolve to complete an unfinished mission.



Shaped by the lessons of the pandemic and the growing weight of non-communicable diseases, his vision for Malaysia's healthcare system is both ambitious and deeply human: not just to help Malaysians live longer, but to help them live better, right until the final decade of their lives.


Today, Malaysian women live to an average of 79 years and men to about 75. For the Minister, longevity alone is no longer the benchmark. "I want to see healthier Malaysians - healthier in the last nine to 10 years of their lives," says the good doctor, who recently turned 70. "A quality of life that is dignified, active and meaningful, aligned with the aspirations of a Madani government that places people and compassion......
